Mission Statement
St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, in the tradition of the Sisters of St. Joseph, seeks to identify and respond to the unique health and social needs of individuals and communities in the greater Rochester region.
About Us
St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center provides person-centered comprehensive primary and specialty care, mental health counseling, support services and referrals, healthcare access assistance, and more to individuals and families who are uninsured and under-insured in the greater Rochester area.
Established in 1993 as a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and becoming an independent nonprofit in 2012, the Center is committed to raising the health status and quality of life of individuals and families in our area.
Staffing
25 full and part-time employees.
Over 80 healthcare professionals and 25 counselors and social workers, both staff and volunteers.
50 student interns annually from area colleges.
Over 80 other lay and professional volunteers.
Over 250 volunteers log in an average of 850 hours per month, with a total value of more than $2 million annually.
Our Impact
In 2023, the Center served 1,570 individuals at 5,820 unique visits.
2,100+ of those appointments were for our Counseling and Community Works department (mental health).
We saw the most patients from zip codes 14620, 14621, 14609, 14608, and 14612 in 2023.
Patients and clients come primarily from the Rochester area and surrounding counties; however, there are no geographic or other limitations to service. Any uninsured or underinsured individual is welcome. Anyone who cannot access healthcare is welcome at St. Joseph's Neighborhood Center!
70 percent of our patients and clients are the working poor.
Approximately 1,000 walk-in clients are served each year with the use of the Center's telephone, fax/copier, and mailing address.
Bread, We Care Kits (hygiene bags), and referrals for food/clothing/shelter are also provided.
Funded by caring souls like you.
SJNC’s 2023 operating budget was $3.7M. Our funding comes from the following areas:
Grants – 57%*
Donations – 39%
Fees for Service – 3%
Miscellaneous Income – 2%
*SJNC is very selective about which funders it applies to for grants. While this percentage of our funding model has increased in recent years, we are still fiercely independent and do not take funds from sources that dictate how we serve our patients.
